Sparks Florist, in conjunction with the Community Services Division of Truckee Meadows Community College, offers two different floristry classes: one for career-mined people, and the other for the floral hobbyist.

Florist Business Fundamentals

FBF is a great entry-level class conducted in a working traditional retail florist setting. This fun, popular, and very successful class is scheduled for 10 continuous weekday sessions, each 3-hours long during the afternoon. The goal is to provide basic training for students to be hired as a Care and Handling Associate or Design Assistant. It is hosted at our 10,000 sq-ft Floral Design Center in Sparks, and taught by senior company managers, as well as our talented design staff. The only complaint students have about this class is that it just isn’t long enough!

You will be exposed to and receive hands-on experience in the following areas:
1. The types, business structures, practices, and markets of retail florists;
2. Growers, wholesale florists, and related supply providers for retail florists;
3. A detailed examination of employment opportunities of traditional retail florists;
4. Flower and plant identification and care and handling procedures;
5. Design styles, materials, and mechanics;
6. Elementary design practice of a basic array of arrangement types.

Floral Arranging for Fun

If you want to learn how to make your own floral arrangements, please take this outstanding class taught by our Chief Designer. Always different, fun, and interesting, this 3-week class is offered at the Floral Design Center as is Florist Business Fundamentals, but for one two-hour session every Thursday evening. We supply the materials, you supply the tools, such as knife and scissors. Don’t miss it!
